Alexandra Gorlin-Crenshaw

Alexandra Gorlin-Crenshaw is a composer who draws on her training as a soprano and pianist to write music and create interdisciplinary works, honing new skills along the way. Her performances may include original music and texts, folk songs, lieder, self-accompanied opera arias, projections, shadow theatre, handmade puppets, artist books, and crankies. Thanks to support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et lettres de Québec, Alexandra’s work includes Ordinary as Light (2026), a quartet for violin, cello, piano, and percussion, premiered by the Freesound Collective in Toronto; The Ghosts at My Address (2024-2026), for two pianists and their voices, premiered in Soundstreams' “Keyed-Up” Festival; Song/Book (2023), a solo performance in which she brings to life handmade artist books and Yiddish folk song arrangements; Ava’s House (forthcoming), for soprano and toy theatre box; and Songs That Shan’t Be Named, for four soprano-dancers and body percussion. Alexandra lives in Montreal with her husband and baby. In her free time, you may find her taking long walks in the city, reading graphic novels, or coaxing her windowsill of plants to stay alive, just a little bit longer.
